The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3770 of Mountain Grove, Mo has sponsored the annual Patriots Pen essay writing contest for students in grades 6 – 8 for many years for the students of Skyline School. Part of the annual Veterans Day program there is for the winners to be announced and receive their awards. Present and representing the Mtn Grove VFW were post members Terry Prock and Iris Joe Kelley and Auxiliary members Glinda Kelley, Nancy Smith and Judy Hutchison.
First on the program was recognition for the members of the Yellow Ribbon group from Skyline School that participated in Mtn Grove VFW’s Mission 22 on September 22, 2016 – go here for further info on that story.
Next up was this young lady who is a part of that group and she handed out “You Matter” cards to all guests.
Then the sponsor of the Yellow Ribbon group spoke on what the group does and the intent of it’s mission. The group’s main mission is to raise awareness of suicide and to work to prevent it.

Skyline School is a small rural school with students K thru 8. It sits at the confluence of C highway and 76 Highway in Douglas County, Mo eleven miles south of Norwood. The Mtn Grove VFW feels that although it is a small school the students there matter enough for the post to sponsor the annual Patriots Pen essay writing contest there. The students there submitted 18 entries this year.
