The morning was cold and rainy with the temperature hovering near freezing when it was time for the first meeting of 2017. Attitudes were bright though as the Comrades came together, visited and prepared for the meeting.
Past Post Commander “Pete” Proctor prepared a quick breakfast of pancakes and syrup along with coffee to drink.
The meeting got underway promptly at 10 am led by CDR Beal. Sixteen (16) members were present with just one officer absent. A new member, Gene Muir, was introduced and voted into the post. He joins Pam Cook and Dan Rosso as new members for the year. Membership for the 2016-2017 now stands at 100.62% with 100% retention. Reading of the minutes and the Quartermasters report were given by the respective officers and the Service Officer gave a good report. Several members were reported to be ill.
Unfinished Business was taken care of and the meeting moved into New Business. The Pot Luck Social that was scheduled for 1-21-2017 was cancelled by a vote of the membership present.
The Raffle Committee reported in the progress of the UTV Raffle and that some over 200 tickets of the 1000 have been distributed thus far. Several members took groups of 20 tickets each to distribute.
CDR Beal moved the meeting into Good of the Order and read several “Thank You”s from several of the winners in our VOD/PP (Derek Camp, Marla Chadwell, Sara McIntosh, and Megan Broos) contests that are held each year in three area schools. He then read from the Dept of Mo General Orders and the National HQ General Orders.
CDR Beal reminded everyone that the Post would be conducting a “Colors Ceremony” on the Mtn Grove Public Square at 9:00 a.m. on January 27, 2017 (Friday) to observe the “Signing of the Vietnam Peace Accords” as required in the by-laws (page 3 of the Ritual section). All members are urged to attend and the public has been invited. An announcement has been placed in the Mtn Grove News-Journal and it will be announced on KELE 92.5 ‘The Grove’ radio station
The meeting was closed and the next meeting will be on February 11, 2017 at 10:00 .m. Breakfast will be ready around 9:00 a.m.
